I was also very happy to discover recently, that Chris Offutt co-produced and wrote S05 E08 of the Showtime series Weeds, below is the first paragraph of Offutt’s Wikipedia entry, in case you don’t know why I was so happy for him.
The son of author Andrew J. Offutt, Chris Offutt grew up in a small former mining community in the Appalachian foothills of eastern Kentucky. He quit high school to join the army, but failed the physical. He subsequently attended Morehead State University and graduated with a degree in theater and a minor in English. He then hitchhiked around the country, holding more than 50 jobs, all part-time.
Jeffrey Toobin has a really nice long form profile of Mets owner Fred Wilpon in the New Yorker, the piece focuses on Wilpon’s business dealings and his relationship with Bernie Madoff, but has generated a lot of controversy in the sports media because of Wilpon’s candid comments about current Mets players. Controversy aside, I think it’s worth a read, especially if you’re a similarly afflicted Mets fan.
